The coverage was created by merging the following datasets –
1. 2010 Minset “tscp_minset_dist_2010_v1_2_wll” – Irreplaceable and high irreplaceable catagories.
2. National Threatened Ecosystems “
Threatened_ecos_9_12_2011_original_extent” – Critically endangered catagory
3. KZN Threatened Ecosystem “KZN_Criteria_E_ThreatEcosys_2008_V2_0_wdd”- Critically Endangered and Endangered category.
4. Landscape Corridor critical linkages “BSP_LSCorr_final260116_wll” - Corridor type “Critical Linkage category.
The updated protected area boundary (consisting of the state proclaimed
and Ezemvelo managed protected area – “ekznw_pabnd_2015_wdd”;
state proclaimed and not Ezemvelo managed protected area-
“other_nr_2016”; Stewardship sites – “stewardship_jan2016_draft”;
proclaimed CCAs-“cca_jan2016”; and proclaimed private nature reserves-
“ private_nr_2016”) was used to remove areas under formal protection
from the abovementioned datasets.
Datasets 1 to 3 were merged and the 2011 ver 1 modification dataset was
used to remove modified areas. This was then projected to wgs lo31 and
named “TSCP_NatThreat_KZNCritE_lessmod_w31_merge_mp”.
The critical linkage dataset was cleaned by removing any slivers around
the protected areas. The cleaned dataset was converted to wgslo31 and
named “BSP_LSCorr_final260116_31_critlinkext_lesspa_merge_mp”.
Area field was added to both datasets
(“TSCP_NatThreat_KZNCritE_lessmod_w31_merge_mp”and “BSP_LSCorr_final260116_31_critlinkext_lesspa_merge_mp”). Polygons, less than 4ha, from the cleaned critical linkage file that did not share a boundary with or fall completely within any of the polygons from the “TSCP_NatThreat_KZNCritE_lessmod_w31_merge_mp” dataset, were deleted. The dataset was then converted to to WGS84 decimal degrees. The “TSCP_NatThreat_KZNCritE_lessmod_w31_merge_mp”and “BSP_LSCorr_final260116_31_critlinkext_lesspa_merge_mp” datasets were then merged and polygons less than 4ha were removed. NB The Local Knowledge Irreplaceable sites were not included in this
version.
