2017 CapeNature Stewardship Sites Stewardship Sites - 2017 (Signed and Declared)
CapeNature Stewardship Sites - Sites signed up or declared, including categories, such as Contract Nature Reserves, Biodiversity Agreements, Protected Environments & Voluntary Conservation Areas.
The definitions for the statuses are as follows;
Designated - refers to all Nature Reserves (including Contract Nature Reserves) or Protected Environments declared by the Minister or MEC, and subsequently Gazetted (Notice Number provided in Master Stewardship Register). Biodiversity Agreements and Voluntary Conservation Areas do not fall under the NEM: Protected Areas Act and therefore do not get declared.
Signed - means a Protected Area Management Agreement has been signed for the Nature Reserve or Protected Environment but it has not been declared yet.
Pending - means sites where negotiation have begun but no Agreement has been signed yet: but we don’t put these on the distributable Stewardship layer.
In negotiation - sites where negotiation has started and no agreement reached yet.
Withdrawn - sites were withdrawn as a possible stewardship site. This means sites that were anywhere between negotiations and signed, but not designated yet.

The original data was extracted from the various regions stewardship databases.
Since the database is not in working order, updated shapefiles are sent annually to the Programme Manager for Stewardship Sites from the various regions and then onto SS. These updates are added to the latest known update.
The updates for 2014 were done on the base layers as last updated by Genevieve Pence in August 2013. These layers were; (i) Master Stewardship Register_Q4 Jan 2013.xlsx, (ii) StewardshipAll_pluspending_Capenature_16aug2013_utm.xlsx, and (iii)
StewardshipAll_pluspending_CapeNature_16Aug2013_utm.shp.
The updates to the Stewardship Sites layer were received from Kerry Purnell on the 3rd of October 2014. The updated spreadsheet was received on the 10th of October 2014.
Various updates were then done in 2015 based on the updated Q2 master register and gazettes of declared sites received. Also various corrections of boundaries and names as needed.
On 8 February 2017 a new updated Q3 stewardship register were received from Monique Key. Using this register, (i) added 31 new sites based on the property reference and cadastre layer, and listed 11 new sites with no property reference, and (ii) changed the statuses of 21 properties and added the feature for 3 outstanding properties.

(pending), Bracken CNR (pending), Destiny (Piksteelkuil) CNR (signed), Edith Stevens CNR (designated), Ellis family VCA (signed), Franco Three Fountains CNR (signed), Helderberg CNR (pending), Hermanuskraal VCA (signed), Het Groote Vischgat BA (signed), Joostenbergkloof CNR (pending), Kani Mambo VCA (signed), Klipgat BA (signed), Kliprug CNR (pending), L’Ormarins Reactive BA (pending), Oudeberg CNR (signed), Oshoek BA (signed), Rietvalley BA (signed), Uitkamp CNR (pending), Van Loveren CNR (signed), Vergelegen CNR (signed), Wilde Als Vlei CNR (signed), Witkliprug CNR (signed), Witkliprug BA (signed), Witkliprug VCA (signed), Witzands CNR (signed), Wolfgat CNR (pending), Worseley BA (pending), Blaauwberg CNR, pending, no shp), Brenton Blue Butterfly CNR (pending, no shp), De Rust Koppie CNR (pending, no shp), Diosma CNR (pending, no shp), Greylands BA (pending, no shp), Grootkop CNR (pending, no shp), Haarwegskloof CNR (pending, no shp),

Aloe Ridge CNR (no longer on register), Altona BA (replaced), Dassenberg CNR (withdrawn), Dwarskersbos Reactive BA (pending), Groenfontein Nr 48 VCA (signed), Jakkalsdans CNR (signed), Klein Ribbokkop (name change), Koeberg PNR (signed), Melkhout Post VCA (signed), Middelplaas BA (added shp), Naauwkloof CNR (name change), Napier Renosterveld (added shp), Palmiet Valley BA (pending), Pappagaaiberg CNR designated), Pauline Bohnen CNR (signed), Sanbona CNR (signed), Shaw’s Pass CNR (signed), Skulpiesbaai CNR (signed), Somergroen BA (added shp), Sunshine CNR (signed), Verlorenvlei (Vleikraal) CNR (designated), Vogelstruis Post VCA (signed), Werner Fresche CNR (signed), Witteberg CNR (signed).
From this final layer, only the sites with a declaration status of signed and designated were extracted.
