National Wetland Map 5 & 2
A sub-version of the National Wetland Map 5.
National Geo-spatial Information (NGI) data from 2006 and 2016 was unioned into a single feature class. This was further unioined with the Estuaries Functional Zone, Working for Wetlands data, peatlands data, and the 1 m buffers of the NGI spring points (referred to as the ADD1 feature class). This layer was further split into provincial data sets for attending to slivers, checking names and assigning HGM units to a polygon.
This layer should not be used as the final National Wetland Map 5. For the final National wetland map 5 please refer to the layer National Biodiversity Assessment 2018 Artificial Wetlands AEA.

- Purpose
-
Improving the national wetland inventory.
Mapping the locality of wetlands is essential so that they may be classified into the different wetland ecosystem types across the country, which in turn can be used along with other data to identify wetlands of conservation significance.

-
A sub-version of the National Wetland Map 5 which was clipped to each province and then allocated to a number of people to refine and validate. This feature was created through the union of the NGI 2006 and 2016 data into a single feature class (NGI_2006_2016, D and D2 –section 1 of Van Deventer et al., 2018), as well as unioned with the Estuaries Functional Zone, Working for Wetlands data, peatlands data, and the 1 m buffers of the NGI spring points (referred to as the ADD1 feature class – see section 2 of Van Deventer et al., 2018). Called feature class National_Wetland_Map_5_2
This layer should not be used as the final National Wetland Map 5.
