BGIS Spatial Datasets Compilation of natural vegetation layer from various sources by A. von Hase (2003), as part of the Cape Lowlands Renosterveld Project. The following data sources were considered in creating and refining the GIS layer: 1. Natural fragment layer of the West Coast forelands (from interpretation of aerial photographs), by Charlotte Heijnis (1997), UCT. 2. C.A.P.E. natural vegetation layer derived through classification of satellite imagery by Wendy Lloyd (1999), Agricultural Research Council (ARC), 3. Classification of satellite imagery (using neural networks), by Ian Newton (2002), UWC, for the northern Swartland region. 4. Data from field visits aimed at refining fragment layer derived from satellite by Botanical Society of SA, 2003 (only within the Cape Lowlands Renosterveld Project central planning domain) Data from above sources was combined (in gridformat), converted to a coverage and a description field was added.
