It was an expert assessment of mainstem rivers requiring protection as they are either vulnerable and of high biodiversity value, or they are important in linking up important subcatchment areas. The aquatic biodiversity assessment failed to capture rivers as fluvial processes which are linear and cannot simply be split up into parts. The corridors aim to capture and fill these gaps.
