Methodology:
This assessment planning domain comprises the WCDMA and the Matsikamma LM north of the Olifants and Wiedou Rivers. This we refer to as the “core planning domain”. The rationale for including the Matsikamma LM is that this means the entire Knersvlakte Bioregion is included in the planning process. Additionally, significant change in the vegetation map and the land cover mean that the resultant CBA
map will change significantly.
The existing CBA maps for the Matzikama Local municipality, produced by the CAPE Fine Scale team, are based on a design process aimed at meeting conservation targets. The approach with the CBA map here is an overlay process aimed at identifying all features of biodiversity importance and not a selected subset derived through the design process. This CBA map does not replace the CAPE fine scale map for the northern Matzikama LM; it simply indentifies a few additional areas that should be classified as CBA or ESA. All data layers produced in the assessment will be provided for the WCDMA alone and for the wider “core planning domain”.
