The coverage was created by merging the following datasets –
1. 2010 Minset “tscp_minset_dist_2010_v1_2_wll” – Optimal
catagories.
2. Local Knowledge 2016 “LocalKnowledge_w31_01022016” – aquatic and terrestrial optimal catagories.
The updated protected area boundary (consisting of the state proclaimed and Ezemvelo managed protected area – “ekznw_pabnd_2015_wdd”; state proclaimed and not Ezemvelo managed protected area- “other_nr_2016”; Stewardship sites – “stewardship_jan2016_draft”; proclaimed CCAs-“cca_jan2016”; and proclaimed private nature reserves- “ private_nr_2016”) was used to remove areas under formal protection from the Minest datasets.
The 2011 ver 1 modification dataset was used to remove modified areas. This was then projected to wgs lo31 and named “TSCP_minset_dist_2010_v1_2_w31_CBAoptimalext_less_mod_mp”.
Polygons less than 4ha were deleted. The dataset was then converted to WGS84 decimal degrees and merged with the Local knowledge dataset. There were areas in the CBA Irreplaceable and Optimal datasets where they overlapped. The CBA Optimal areas that were extracted from the CPlan and the expert knowledge areas overlapped with the National and Provincial Threatened Ecosystem areas, which were used to develop the CBA Irreplaceable. To prevent confusion when using the datasets it was decided to remove the irreplaceable areas from the optimal dataset.
Note that 4ha was not removed after the CBA irreplaceable was removed, so there are several fragmented polygons smaller than 4ha.
