Nelson Mandela Bay species of special concern 2009
Known localities of Red Data Book species and localized endemics with limited distributions were depicted spatially. Species with broad distributions were not mapped, as these would be conserved incidentally via the achievement of targets for vegetation types. The classes of species mapped included plants, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

- Statement
-
The species of special concern were divided into three categories for target setting purposes, namely 1) endangered, 2) vulnerable, threatened or rare and 3) local endemics. The database for these species will be housed with the NM MOSS Implementation Co-ordinator and provided on the Municipalities GIS in a coded manner for the red-flagging of development proposals within their distributions, without providing the species information in order to limit the illegal collections of these species.
