Archived Gouritz Vegetation 2004
Vegetation types for the Gouritz Initiative area. The vegetation types have been graded as well according to percentage protected, percentage remaining and whether it is endemic:
- Indication of whether the vegetation type is endemic to the Gouritz Initiative area (see Appendices 1 and 2 in Lombard et al., 2004)
- Percentage of the original extent of the vegetation type remaining as of 1998 (see Appendices 1 and 2 in Lombard et al., 2004)
- Percentage of the original extent of the vegetation type in ‘Type 1’ Conservation areas, i.e. those state owned protected areas run by SANP, MCM, DWAF, WCNCB, DEAT, Local Authorities (see Appendices 3 and 4 and p15 in Lombard et al., 2004)

It was agreed by H. de Klerk, G. Barodien, and A. Vlok that the vegetation would be clipped to the boundary of the GIS planning domain, as all the transformation, protection, and conservation statistics are only calculated for those portions of the vegetation falling within the study boundary. As the GI vegetation types layer was compiled from the SKEP and CAPE layers, these latter two data layers can be used for areas falling outside the GIS study area boundary.
GI_vegwgs.shp was clipped with GI_planning_domain_gw.shp to make gouritz_veg_gw.shp
The following tabular data was extracted from Lombard et al. (2004) and joined onto gouritz_veg_gw using Table/Join and Fixjoin.avx:
- Appendices 1 and 2, providing endemism and percentage remaining for each vegetation type compared to their original extent
- Appendices 3 and 4, providing percentage conserved for each vegetation type
- Appendices 6, providing the conservation status for each vegetation type (as determined by the percentage remaining versus the target developed by Lombard et al., 2004)
