BGIS Spatial Datasets The 1:500 000 rivers GIS layer, available from DWAF, was used to classify river heterogeneity signatures for South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. First, the river and geomorphic province GIS layers were spatially overlayed to classify rivers according to the geomorphic province within which they occur. Next, the hydrological index class was joined to the rivers using a relational join on the quaternary catchment identifier.
