Statement

The protected area boundaries have been captured from different sources and at varying scales. Where possible, this is reflected in the table.

The KZN boundary file was updated in June 2005, and as a result the protected area boundaries file has had to be editied as well.

Where KZNW protected area boundaries coincide with the provincial boundary, the following steps have been taken. If the protected area boundary has been captured from a finer scale, or is more accurate, then the provincial boundary has been replaced with the protected area boundary. (Tembe, GSLWP,) If the provincial boundary is more accurate, then the provincial boundary has been used to update the protected area boundary. (Umtamvuna,UDP, Ndumu, Pongolabush, Ncandu, Pongola/Pongolapoort, Trafalgar, Umhlanga, Umlalazi, Amatikulu, Richards Bay, Coleford.)

February 2006:

Vryheid Hill has been extended to the east (Ref: Alex Wood February 2006)

Tugela Drift boundary has been corrected.

March 2006:

NtsikeniVlei boundary has been included. This boundary was obtained from MDTP (they acquired it from 'Div' de Villiers - Eastern Cape Nature Conservation). The boundary was drawn onto a 1:50000 by Div, and then digitized by Evaristo.

The boundary for eMakhosini has been included and labelled as "Co-managed with AMAFA". The boundary was supplied by Graham Keet, and digitized using the cadastral data from the SG as the source file.

July 2007:

The GSLWP boundary has been updated as follows, by using the 1:50 000 river coverage:

Mkuze Game Reserve northern/eastern boundary moved to centre of Mkuzi river.

Ozabeni western boundary moved to centre of Muzi pan, and centre of Mkuze river.

Doreen Clark boundary has been updated by using the surveyed cadastre as provided by Craig Briscoe (Consultant employed by Roger Porter to check on status of PA's).

The Vryheid boundary co-ordinates were provided by a surveyor in Vryheid (via DCO Alex Wood).

The Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park boundary has been updated using the cadastre obtained from the SGO - March 2007. (Most of the cadastral info has been captured by co-ordinate key in.)

The Ntsikeni boundary has also been updated by using the cadastre from the SGO, using the properties as described in the proclamation.

February 2008:

UmvotiVlei boundary edited. Proclamation checked after query from Ian Rushworth, and boundary adjusted accordingly.

July 2008:

Talmage Pan boundary has been put back into the coverage. De-proclamation has been sought but has not been finalised yet.

Nhlabane has been removed from the coverage. This pa is not managed by us, and was never proclaimed by the KDNC.

Qudeni has been kept in the coverage, although it is not currently managed by us, handover from DWAF is anticipated (ref: Roger Porter)

Attributes and fields have been updated to reflect consolidated areas, proclaimed components, and satellite areas.

Another field has been added - "gis area (ha)". There are differences bewtween the "proc area (ha)" and the gis area for a number of reasons. The proc area figure is from Roger Porter's files and the yearbook figures that he reported on, and is the area as it is given in the proclamation. (These figures need to be updated but I think it is worth waiting for Craig Briscoe to finish his contract)

August 2008:

Update by BimallNaidoo

April 2010:

Mpenjati northern boundary amended using info supplied by surveyor Craig Briscoe.

Trafalgar boundary replaced with polygon supplied by Tamsyn's MPA file sent for archiving.

August 2010:
