Statement

Defines the study area for the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Plan (SKEP). The study area is divided into four sub-regions (Namibia-Gariep, Namaqualand, Hantam-Tanqua-Roggeveld and Southern Karoo).

Since the planning domain covers such a large area it was divided into four sub-regions and champions were selected for each region. This made it simpler to co-ordinate various activities in each sub-region.

See SKEP technical report for a detailed explanation of how it was created. Topology was checked using ARCINFO software. NOTE: This does not match the outer boundaries of some of the SKEP data layers, as a different reference coastline was used. Additions by Western Cape Nature Conservation Board:24 January 2003, Glynnis Barodien (Conservation Planning Unit) recalculated areas and perimeters using Xtools in Lambert projection.

For more information refer to the SKEP Technical report.
